Our Story

At Wool N Root, everything started with two things I’ve loved since I was young: raising sheep and gardening. I started in 4-H when I was nine years old, and for the past 25 years, that passion has grown into raising Oxford sheep in New Hampshire, showing and selling breeding stock. Looking back, my younger self would be pretty pumped to know that those two hobbies would eventually come together to inspire Wool N Root.

Along the way, I discovered another passion gardening. After shearing season, there was always leftover wool that most people considered waste. Instead of throwing it away, I started using it in my garden. It wasn’t pretty, and it took a long time to break down, but I quickly noticed my soil stayed moist longer, my vegetables grew better, and there were noticeably more earthworms anywhere the wool was used, a simple sign of healthier, living soil.

That experience changed the way I looked at wool and eventually inspired Wool N Root. What was once overlooked waste became a natural way to help improve soil structure, retain moisture, and support stronger root growth.

I truly believe every gardener can benefit from healthier soil, whether you’re growing in a raised bed, patio planter, window box, or backyard garden. Wool N Root was created to make natural soil health simple, sustainable, and accessible for everyone.

Because where wool meets soil, life takes root.

Our Pellets

Wool pellets are more than just a garden additive; they are a powerful natural soil conditioner designed to improve the health and structure of your soil. As the pellets expand and gradually break down, they help loosen compacted soil, improve aeration, and create a healthier environment for root development. Stronger, deeper roots allow plants to access water and nutrients more efficiently, leading to healthier growth and better yields.

As an added bonus, wool pellets naturally retain moisture, helping reduce watering needs by up to half by holding water near the root zone where plants need it most. They also provide slow-release nourishment as the wool gradually breaks down, supporting steady, long-term plant growth throughout the season.

Unlike peat or coco coir, wool pellets actively improve soil structure while supporting long-term soil health. Made from a sustainable, renewable resource, they are an eco-friendly way to build healthier soil, stronger roots, and more resilient plants.
